Jason Momoa's Delaying Shooting Of Aquaman 2 So He Can Save Sacred Land In Hawaii

A real-life superhero.

Jason Momoa has revealed he may have to delay shooting of Aquaman 2 because he’s trying to save sacred land in Hawaii – and that sounds like a pretty good reason to us.

The star has been in Hawaii over the last few weeks protesting a construction project on the state’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea, sacred land to Indigenous Hawaiians.

The Thirty Meter Telescope, or TMT, is a $1.4 billion construction project which has sparked much protest among native people.

According to CNN, revered ancestors are buried at the sacred site and it’s seen as the place where humans can enter heaven. Scientists, however, see the land as the best place to capture a clear glimpse into the origins of the universe.

The Rock is also on board with the protests and has previously said, “It’s not about stopping science. It’s about respecting culture and respecting people and doing things the right way.”

He added that protests are “so peaceful, yet so powerful,” however, several arrests have been made.

Jason joined the fight after the arrests were made and has since taken to Instagram to share many updates from the site.

In one post he wrote, “We are the unexpected, we are the resistance, we will never give up.”

“TMT, you are welcome in [The] Canary Islands. The conditions are better and you are welcome there. Even better, the best conditions [are in] Morocco, but if no one wants [you], TMT, [then] shoot it to space. Please leave [our] Mauna alone. You have taken enough from our people… Leave us alone. NO is NO.”

The actor has once again taken to Instagram to share that “can’t shoot Aquaman 2“.

“Sorry Warner Bros we can’t shoot Aquaman 2. Because Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. WE ARE NOT LETTING YOU DO THIS ANYMORE. Enough is enough.”

We’re pretty sure Jason will be contractually obligated to shoot the film, but it’s a pretty powerful reason to delay shooting.

Aquaman 2 will be released on December 16, 2022.
