Man Of My Literal Dreams Jake Gyllenhaal Walked Into NYC Traffic To Save A Dog

"He really was a hero."

It’s safe to say my love affair with Jake Gyllenhaal started at a young age. Over the course of my 27 years, Gyllenhaal has proven time and time again why he is quite literally the man of my dreams – but his most recent act of heroism truly takes the cake.

According to Page Six, Gyllenhaal walked into oncoming traffic in NYC last week to save a sweet Dalmatian from being hit by a car.

“I noticed that it was Jake Gyllenhaal, and I saw him turn and look into the street – I thought he was trying to flag down a cab or something,” and eyewitness told Page Six. “It was like the dog was in shock of something.”

Apparently, Gyllenhaal left the woman he was walking with and stepped out into the street. He motioned the traffic to stop, secured the dog and attempted to calm it down. He led it back to the owner and then spent some time with her talking about “different types of leashes that might prevent the scary situation from happening again.”

“He really was a hero,” the eyewitness added.

It’s not the first time Gyllenhaal has made his love of dogs known. In a 2018 interview with W Magazine, he said, “I love dogs, I just love them. They are so playful. I think that they bring that out in us, if we allow it. I don’t think I’m that playful, generally. I need to be reminded of it. So, they remind me of that.”

It’s a sweet sentiment, but I’m calling BS on Jake thinking he’s not generally playful. The 38-year-old actor joined Instagram late last year and it’s been the best thing to happen to my newsfeed.

Whether he’s poking fun at Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland, wearing his Mysterio mask IRL or hilariously burning cast members in interview and captions, Jake Gyllenhaal’s entire mood is playful. Which is number 1,568 on the list of reasons I love him.

Don’t ever change, Jake.
