Where Can I Find The HSC Maths Formula Sheet?

It's a numbers game.

Of all of the subjects at high school, none polarise opinion like mathematics. You’re either good at it or not, apparently, which isn’t what you want to hear if you fall into the latter category. Of course, book smarts aren’t innate, and you can work at it if you need to bump up your math’s grade to improve your HSC mark and ATAR rank. What you need is an HSC maths formula sheet.

Unfortunately, HSC maths formula sheets don’t grow on trees and one won’t fall into your lap. The good news is that we take your future life prospects seriously, which is why we’ve tracked one down. Carry on reading to find out more.

Education Standards Authority

If you haven’t heard of the NSW Education Standards Authority, it’s because it’s relatively new. In 2017, NESA took over from the previous regulator, the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW. And, we know why – BOSTES is a mouthful!

HSC Maths Formula Sheet

Because it’s part NESA’s remit, it is the body that provides students with formula sheets and past papers for studying purposes. The maths formula sheet is no different, and you can find it by clicking on this link and this one, too.

What Does The HSC Maths Formula Sheet Include?

It depends on which maths assessment you’re taking. In maths, there are five different options that dictate what HSC maths formula sheet you can use, including the extension courses. They are:

  • Mathematics Standard 1
  • Mathematics Standard 2
  • Mathematics Advanced
  • Mathematics Extension 1 (only available to students studying Mathematics Advanced)
  • Mathematics Extension 2 (only available to students studying Mathematics Advanced and Mathematics in Year 12)

There are some general rules, however. For example, when you choose the past paper that matches with your maths course, you’ll see everything from the questions that might appear to marker guidelines and notes. And, the savvy students will be able to dismiss questions based on the ones that have already been published. Very clever!

The Syllabus Pages

Syllabus pages also include sample exam questions, but there is a little more information about the course as a whole. Did you know that you can glean the course outcomes and assessment and reporting guidelines from the maths syllabus, too? Not many students do, but that’s why we’re here to help.

Are There Other Resources?

Indeed there are, you insatiable education minx! As well as HSW and The Sydney Morning Herald guide, there are exam workbooks for a variety of course, maths being one of them. You can buy them from the NESA shop.

During the exam, don’t forget that you’re allowed to bring in equipment to help complete the paper alongside your HSC maths formula sheet. Any calculator that features on this list is fine, as is the equipment that shows on this list. Check both beforehand to ensure that you aren’t accused of cheating.

That’s the last thing you want after all your hard work sifting through HSC maths formula sheets and past exam papers. I mean, is there no respect in the world anymore?!
