It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Matt Damon And Ben Affleck Are Going To Make A Movie About The McDonald's Monopoly Scheme And How Do You Like THEM Apples?!

From Batman to Hamburgler: is there no end to Ben Affleck’s impressive character acting?

Did you head the one about the ex-cop who managed to scam the Maccas Monopoly game for millions with the help of a New York crime family and a fortune teller?

No?

Well, it only went up on Daily Beast a few days ago, so don’t beat yourself up about it.

However, a few days is all it took for Hollywood to latch on to the fantastic story, and for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to confirm that they would be making the movie.

If Australia Post acted that fast, the cassette cleaning machine that I bought off eBay would have arrived by now (don’t worry, “Killaconcepts,” I received your eBay post notification – expect nothing but five-star feedback from this happy customer).

We’re gonna make a movie

You can read a great recap here, but here’s a quick one for those at the back:

Jerome Jacobson was an ex-cop who worked for the printing company that produced the Maccas Monopoly stickers for the bi-annual comp the burger chain would run each year.

Jacobson recruited an army of willing patsies who helped him to defraud the Maccas Monopoly game, primarily using these mythical “instant win stickers.” The patsy would get a chunk of the cash, Jerome would get a little kicker to line his pockets, and Maccas lost a small slice of the many millions they had. It seemed like a victimless racket.

Matt Damon!

Special Agent Richard Dent at the FBI didn’t agree.

It took a series of taps and hoodwinks worthy of an episode of The Wire (season 2: when McNulty was still in his prime) to bring him down, but Dent eventually got his man.

When Jerome Jacobson finally took the stand, he confessed to stealing over game pieces worth over $24 million in cash and prizes.

MATT! DAMON!

In the days since the article launched, the internet has been divided on whether Jerome is a criminal mastermind or just a guy who took advantage of a weird situation. However, there’s one thing everyone has agreed one: this would make a gnarly film.

Well, it didn’t take long for Hollywood to take note, and Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have already confirmed their involvement in bringing this story to the screen.

There is no word yet as to whether this will shift the story’s setting from Carolina to Boston, or whether it will see a gun-wielding Accountant take the place of the FBI agent.

However, one thing is certain: if this stops Ben Affleck from making another Batman film, then the world is a little safer, for now…

Matt Damon?
