Harry Styles Interviewing Timothée Chalamet Is So Gloriously New Wave Masculinity

This is single-handedly restoring my faith in men.

The world has been waiting for a friendship to blossom between platinum-selling award-winning musician Harry Styles, and Oscar-nominated prodigy Timothée Chalamet, and it’s finally happening.

i-D Magazine has blessed us all with the content of our dreams: Harry Styles interviewing Timmy Chalamet, AKA deep chats between our favourite new-wave masc boys.

Reading their phone conversation as they traverse the topics of career, politics, ambitions, and an array of deep sh*t, is exactly the kind of discussions we need for young men to be having and hearing.

In a question about the changing conception of masculinity and whether Timothée feels a responsibility as an actor to represent a new form of masculinity on screen, Harry notes:

“I think there’s so much masculinity in being vulnerable and allowing yourself to be feminine, and I’m very comfortable with that.” Harry said.

Timmy, who, like Harry, is making a name for himself for representing a softer and less rigid kind of masculinity, responded:

“If us having this conversation, in any infinitesimal way, can help anyone, a guy, a girl, realise that being vulnerable is not a weakness, not a social barrier. It doesn’t mean you’re crazy or hyper emotional, you’re just human, which I think is something your music gets at and hopefully my movies do too. Humans are complex; we need to feel a lot of things. We are not homogeneous.”

They also discuss the responsibility to be political and stand up for what’s right in this day and age, and honestly their entire conversation is like an anecdote to all the toxic masculinity and negativity we are constantly surrounded by. It’s well worth a read. Especially because it also includes little nuggets of conversation like this:

“H: Can you still eat peaches?

T: [Laughs] Umm I can, but not without thinking about it…

H: I’ve had a hard time…

T: [Laughs again] That’s the most awkward scene to see with your parents in the whole world. My poor father…

H: I’m sure he’s done it too.”

This is such wholesome content, Harry Style and Timothée Chalamet are lovely and this day is now blessed.
