Sure, Harry Potter Is A Great Wizard, But Ron Weasley Would Make A Better Boyfriend And That’s Why He’s The True Hero Of Hogwarts

He may not be THE chosen one but he's OUR chosen one.

The fictional universe of Harry Potter holds a special place in a lot of our hearts. Both the book and film franchise has given us so many plot lines, creatures and characters to love and it’s what make the stories so magical.

Now, as the titular character, Harry really hogs the attention. Don’t get me wrong, Harry is great – he’s a very talented wizard who has admittedly been somewhat targeted by the masters of dark magic and he is all round a pretty nice guy.

But sometimes it’s like, we get it! You’re the chosen one! Enough already man.

That’s why long ago, (as soon as it was appropriate to do so), we Harry Potter fans pivoted our affection towards the truly deserving male lead: Ronald Weasley.

The truth is that if you’re judging the male characters by who would make the best boyfriend – which we’re all doing on some level…right? – well, Ron Weasley is your man.

Even Draco knows it!

There’s a good reason why the slogan ‘I’d get sleazy for Ron Weasley’ is such a popular global phenomenon – he’s objectively the superior romantic choice.

You can consider this either dating advice or a why-you-should-be-more-like-Ron guide, but we’ve broken down all the reasons why you should get yourself a man like Ron Weasley.

#1 Get yourself a man capable of personal growth

Ooft personal growth! Is it just me or is it getting hot in here?

Of all the characters, Ron’s journey involves the most change as he learns lessons in bravery, wisdom, love and self-worth. He goes from being an insecure, overcompensating, occasionally jealous and insensitive 11-year-old to a man who knows who he is and what he has to do.

The ability to to learn from experiences, self-improve and admit when you make mistakes is a VERY important quality in a partner, so needless to say Hermione is one lucky lady.

#2 Get yourself a man who’s bloody enthusiastic

Unlike some wizards who choose to spend far too much time brooding silently (ahem, Harry), Ron is an open book and tends to announce exactly how he feels about things. Whether he’s outraged or excited, he’s always vivacious so you’ll never be bored with him and he won’t keep you guessing.

He might be born in March but Ron’s a total Leo.

#3 Get yourself a man who’s not afraid to be afraid

Hello, Ron Weasley here, dismantling traditional ideals of stoic masculinity through on screen representation since 1997. You’re welcome.

Ron whimpering at the apocalyptic-level spider infestation in the Forbidden Forest is first of all, relatable as hell, and second of all, the kind of unreserved expression of emotions you want a man to be open to embracing.

Basically what I’m saying is Ron being scared of things is a kink.

#4 Get yourself a man who can pull of ruffles

Ron may have had his doubts about his hand-me-down robes that his mum sends over to him for the ball, but he really carries the whole aesthetic. And working an effeminate wardrobe is very attractive quality in a man, just look at king of colourful suits Harry Styles.

Honestly Ron is working it.

#5 Get yourself a man who sees you as a person first, and a romantic interest second

The reason Ron and Hermione’s love story is so glorious is because the intimacy of their friendship raises the stakes. Although we suspect Ron harbours feelings for Hermione for years, he knows and respects her as a person first and never treats her as a mere romantic prospect.

Ah to have a man give you love and support without expecting sexual compensation. The dream.

But also get yourself a man who can sexually compensate like (I imagine) Ron can.

#6 Get yourself an underdog

At the end of the day, Ron is the hero who was never heralded or rewarded for being the hero. Without the special treatment that Harry enjoys, Ron earns respect and he’s the hero no one sees coming.

Not having the responsibility of being ‘The Chosen One’ forced upon him, but still choosing to put his life on the line to save the wizarding world is what makes Ron such an admirable character.

Plus he never loses his unbridled sense of self, and that’s just beautiful.

So if you’re ever so lucky to meet someone like Ron Weasley, you have our whole-hearted blessing to get sleazy.
