If You Thought Harry Potter’s Scar Was A Lightning Bolt, You Have Actually Been Wrong This Whole Time

Don't stress, this isn't another J.K. Rowling rewriting history stunt.

J.K. Rowling has made a habit out of revealing ‘truths’ about the Harry Potter canon that we might of never guessed or just really, really, didn’t need to know. But this revelation is actually one that the fandom came to all on its very own.

It’s about Harry’s scar. Harry Potter’s lightning bold scar, along with his (outdated) circle glasses are what truly defines his look. that scar is the branding that makes him a legend, it makes him connected to the dark lord, and it just makes him look cool. But I digress.

Apparently it’s not just a lightning bolt because magic sparks off a bit like lightning and there is some kind of vague but easy connection to make there.

But new ‘research’ conducted by an esteemed source (AKA, a die hard Harry Potter fan on Wikipedia) has revealed there’s actually a practical reason behind the shape.

According to the theory, the shape is directly related to the spell that caused it. For any muggles who aren’t across this key piece of canon, Harry got the scar when he survived the ‘Avada Kedavra’ killing curse as a baby.

Twitter user @todayyearsold noticed that the lightning shape is the SAME shape as the gesture used to cast the Avada Kedavra spell. It’s so simple, so obvious, and yet so missed by so many of us all along.

Admittedly, some people ~apparently~ already knew this. And I guess just didn’t feel the need to share? Thanks buddy.

But most of the internet was living the simple life, not questioning the lightning bolt shape as anything more than a funky way to signify ‘MAGIC HAS BEEN HERE’.

We stand corrected, unless J.K. Rowling is about to pipe in and explain it away as some impossible-to-know detail that shakes up the Harry Potter universe all over again.
