Halsey has a lot of fans not just because of her music, but also because of her public advocation for feminism and the #MeToo movement. So a lot of people were confused and disappointed by her new tattoo of Marilyn Manson inked across her ribcage.
She unveiled the tattoo on Wednesday on Instagram, captioning the photo,
“adelaide today. absolutely obsessed. Manson by mega babe @celiadunne_tattoos”
The new ink has divided fans as either for or against the controversial goth rocker musician Marilyn Manson.
Arguments against the show of support for Manson cite his history with sexual abuse and harassment allegations.
Last year, Even Rachel Wood testified in front of Congress for the consideration of the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights Act, detailing a harrowing account of the alleged sexual and physical abuse she experienced at the hands of her then partner Marilyn Manson. In 2009, Manson admitted to fantasising about murdering her.
Last year actress Charlyne Yi accused Manson of sexually harassing women on set and making racist remarks, and Manson has made controversial comments on the existence of racism in society.
It’s this dappled history that has people disgruntled about Halsey’s choice of tribute tattoo. And if they’re looking up to her as a role model then it’s only fair to judge that alliance.
