The Pineapple Express Director And Hailee Steinfeld Are Making A Comedy Series About Emily Dickinson Which Is Just About The Most Random Combination We Could Think Up

It is very unclear who exactly this Apple series is targeted at but I’m keen to see what happens.

The life of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson seems like normal enough subject matter for a TV series. I would expect it to be a wistful period piece, starring Kiera Knightly or someone of the like, and be cinematically beautiful but at its core, quite boring.

But this Apple-ordered comedic take on Emily Dickinson’s life does not sound boring. It actually sounds really bizarre. I’m not sure what to think, or who this is for exactly? But I’m intrigued.

Dickinson is set to star the young singer/actor Hailee Steinfeld as the titular poet, with 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski playing her mother as the show explores the budding writer’s struggle against the constraints of gender, society and family.

The pair are already a bit of an unexpected combo and then you add the fact that the Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green is on board to direct and honestly who know what to expect from this line up? Good things I hope?

It’s also got writer Alena Smith involved who has previously been a writer for the acclaimed HBO series The Newsroom and Showtimes The Affair. Wild.

There are a lot of good puzzle pieces here, I’m just unsure of how they’ll fit together. But I am here for seeing them give it a crack.
