A Network Exec Confirms That There's Been Discussions Of A Gossip Girl Reboot

Finally, Dorota's time to shine.

According to TVLinethe president of the CW Network stirred speculation at a Television Critics Association tour when he announced that there’s been discussions about a Gossip Girl reboot.

Of the network’s iconic show, CW President Mark Pedowitz apparently said:

“There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet. I don’t know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and [exec producers] Josh [Schwartz] and Steph[anie Savage], ’cause you don’t want to do anything without them.”

It’s clearly early days, but the CW is currently airing reboots of Charmed, Dynasty, and Roswell, so it’s not completely far-fetched that a Gossip Girl reboot could be in the network’s future.

And since it’s just in the early stages, we don’t know whether the reboot would see the original cast reprising their roles, or whether it would cast new actors to play a new bunch of teenagers at a pair of elite New York private schools. But who could possibly replace Blair Waldorf and her minions?

Like many millennials, I grew up watching Gossip Girl. I was incredibly invested in Serena and Blair’s friendship, the identity of Gossip Girl (something I still haven’t forgiven Penn Badgley for), and the status of Chair (Chuck and Blair).

But I’m 25 now, and a show about rich teenagers who are being spied and reported on by an anonymous blog seems… old-hat. It’s been done, obviously, and the original show lasted for six seasons. By the end of its run, it didn’t seem to retain much of what made it so popular in the beginning.

I’m just not sure a reboot is necessary. Why not make space for a new show that’s telling a new story, perhaps with a diverse cast of exciting up-and-coming actors?

I will literally only make one exception to this, and that’s if Dorota gets to take over the Gossip Girl blog. Dorota never got enough respect, and she also never got to divulge all of the secrets she obviously knew as a result of basically raising Blair.

#DorotaForGossipGirl. Otherwise, the reboot probably won’t be very exciting. I hope I’m wrong, but I have reboot fatigue at this point, so it will take a lot to convince me this reboot is worthwhile.
