These Snubs Prove the Golden Globes Are Hella Outta Touch

There were heaps of winners, but one clear loser.

The 77th Annual Golden Globes marked the first big award ceremony for the decade and boy, oh boy, did they miss the mark. While yes, many up-and-comers left with a chunk of gold in their hands, many left empty-handed. Here are some of those people.

But, if you need a little refresher on what happened at the Golden Globes, we wrapped up everything you need to know in 120 seconds! Watch below.

6.  Queen of Pop, Queen Elsa of Arendelle

Elsa reigned the Arendelle pop charts back in 2013 and far out, did she come back with an anthem. It was a contentious fight for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, but even against Elton John, Beyonce and Taylor Swift, there was one clear winner – and let’s just say she’s got icy powers.

While “Into The Unknown” may sound annoying if you’re a parent of screaming toddlers, you can’t deny its catchiness and impeccable vocal delivery. Plus, you don’t get the highest-grossing animated film of all time without an iconic bop driving it.

5.  Parasite

The groundbreaking motion picture that was Parasite deserved much more than it took away. While it nabbed Best Motion Picture (Foreign Language) at the Golden Globes, many fans were upset Bong Joon-ho didn’t take home Best Director. Or Best Original Screenplay, for that matter.

4. Jennifer Lopez

While J-LO was the queen of the rom-coms back in the early ’00s, her role in Hustlers marked a new era in her acting career. Slaying alongside Constance Wu, Cardi B and Lizzo, this film displayed Jennifer Lopez’s best acting performance to date, making this triple threat more deserving of the award than her peers. Someone give J-LO a Golden Globe so she can get EGOT status, ASAP!

3. The Irishman

When Martin Scorsese pops out of his cave every few years, the courtesy is to give him his well-deserved Golden Globe. This year, that didn’t happen. The Irishman is over three hours long and it stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, aka this motion picture is made to win awards. And yet, here we are, no award in sight.

2. Marriage Story

Let the tears roll! Credit: GIPHY

While Laura Dern was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Marriage Story, viewers were shocked when that’s all the Netflix Original won. To much surprise, Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson were shut out of Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama), respectively. Considering the movie made me bawl my eyes out for approximately 2 hours straight, this snub hit hard.

1. Netflix

Given the last two on this list, our number one pick shouldn’t shock you. At the start of the night, host Ricky Gervais boldly declared “Everyone is watching Netflix, this show should just be me coming out going: ‘Well done, Netflix. You win everything tonight.’”

And yet, with 34 nominations under their belt, the two wins they did rack hardly seem like a triumph. In addition to the Marriage Story and The Irishman subs, Two Popes was also shut out of any of the categories. Could the Oscars next month rectify this? Only time will tell.
