Why Is Game Of Thrones Teasing Winterfell Falling Along With All Our Favourite Characters?

This 'Aftermath' teaser better be a lie.

HBO often dishes up Game of Thrones trailers and teasers that are really just regurgitated old content, or reiterations of the same few shots over and over again. But they haven’t straight-up lied to us before, (hopefully) until now.

This Game of Thrones clip is titled ‘Aftermath’ and it’s one minute of Winterfell in ruin. The camera pans over the items that belong to all our favourite characters – pretty much all the characters – buried in the snow.

It looks like the aftermath of a battle won by the White Walkers, but there’s no way that HBO would actually spoil the final battle outcome. So is this just to be mean?

Here’s the break down of the snow-buried items that appear in the clip to clarify exactly what we’ve got:

0:08 Dragonglass arrows

0:12 Ghost

0:20 Tyrion’s pin

0:22 Arya’s needle

0:28 Feather which Robert Baratheon put on Lyanna’s statue

0:34 Bran’s broken wheelchair

0:37 Jaime Lannister’s golden hand

0:40 Daenerys’s chain

0:44 Longclaw (Jon Snow’s sword)

Notably, there doesn’t appear to be anything belonging to one Cersei Lannister buried in the snow, so read into that what you will.

All the character-significant rubble plus the distinctly White Walker-created wind at the end is like an imagining of the worst outcome possible for the final Game of Thrones series. So why are we seeing it?

Maybe it’s a lie. Maybe it’s our mates of the Stark alliance setting up the White Walkers? Or Maybe it’s a double bluff and everyone really does die.

They’ve left us with this more norm-core teaser in the meantime to help deal with this ‘Aftermath’ mess.

The truth will come out when the final season episodes start rolling in on Monday April 15, and for once we hope HBO is straight up lying.
