Kit Harington Blames Game Of Thrones’ Worst Ruling Character For Inspiring Trump's Presidency

We see it.

Game of Thrones has created a fantasy world that has drawn us in with both a love and hate for the characters we meet in Westeros. The GoT world is ruthless and the fight for the Iron Throne is messy as hell.

Notably, ‘messy as hell’ is a descriptor that also aptly fits the current political situation in America (and elsewhere @Australia @UK). Coincidence? Perhaps not???

Kit Harington shared his own theory that Game of Thrones “screwed the political landscape”, and even in jest, this theory has some grounds.

While appearing as a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week, our resident sulky boi of Westeros pinned his claim on one particularly terrible character.

“I just felt that certain political figures tried to emulate Joffrey (Baratheon), and things went a little bit wrong.” Harington says, about 4:20 in to the video.

Picking up on Harington’s reference, Colbert added “got the hair,” comparing Donald Trump’s infamous comb forward to the do that Jack Gleeson dons playing the role of Joffrey in the series.

The comparison between Joffrey the cruel king and the similarly cruel and petulant Donald Trump has been made before, even by GoT author George R.R. Martin.

“I think Joffrey is now the king in America,” he joked to Esquire magazine in 2017. “And he’s grown up just as petulant and irrational as he was when he was 13 in the books.”

The character traits that align Joffrey and Trump are so apparent that it makes Kit Harington’s suggestion that one could have inspired the other almost plausible. But in reality, I think we can all agree that Donald Trump became the nasty person that he is all on his very own.
