Game Of Thrones Director David Nutter Has Spilled Some Minor Season Eight Details In A Recent Reddit Thread, So Spoiler Warnings Aplenty

While he didn't go into specifics, he did confirm a few things.

When it comes to being incredibly secretive over brands that nerds love, it often looks like Disney and HBO are in a constant battle of attrition. On one hand, you have the Mouse House not even revealing the name of the next Avengers movie yet. On the other, you have HBO’s final season of Game Of Thrones, which has only really given us a release date and some press shots.

In the latest move from camp Game Of Thrones comes more than a few comments from director David Nutter, who worked not only on the upcoming final season but also on several iconic moments throughout the series, including The Red Wedding.

Earlier this week, Nutter answers some questions on Reddit, and let a few details slip as to what to expect come April 2019.

SPOILERS FOLLOW

As the director of the opening episode of season eight, Nutter said that it was up to him to really set the tone from the upcoming season:

I’ve never directed an opening episode of GOT before until season 8 but I think it’s really important to make a splash. You have to reset the table, put everyone back in their place, you have to take them to their next position. But you have to entertain that’s what’s most important.

While confirming that every episode will be over one hour long, Nutter also had a specific message for anyone who was traumatized by his work on The Red Wedding:

As far as season 8 compared to the Red Wedding I just have to tell you – hang onto your seat cause it’s going to be special.

And noted that the White Walkers won’t be the only threat the cast of Game Of Thrones have to face:

The White Walker army will not be the only issue our characters have to face in season 8, they have to also face each other.

In addition, George RR Martin has released a video outlining some Targaryen history and, possibly, a connection between King Aegon the Conqueror and Jon Snow.

According to the video, Aegon, like Jon, aimed to unite the Seven Kingdoms against the prophecised return of the Others  – The White Walkers.

This has some serious implications, including the suggestion that Jon Snow may be the prophecised second coming of Azor Ahai, the saviour of Westeros.

Could this be true, or is this and everything else we’ve been told another red herring?

We’ll have to wait till April and see.
