The season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones was intense and exactly what fans were looking for in the triumphant return.
However, something that fans may have missed (or chosen to ignore) was the subtle reference to Ed Sheeran’s cameo, and what happened to him.
In the season 7 premiere, viewers came across Ed Sheeran’s character when Arya (Maisie Williams) encountered a group of Lannister soldiers on her way to King’s Landing to kill Cersei.
Ed Sheeran’s character was literally sat by the fire, singing a song.
In the first episode back, whilst recounting the Lannister boys who never came home from war, an exchange mentioned Ed Sheeran’s character, Eddie.
“That boy, Eddie.”
“The ginger?”
“That’s him. Came back with his face burnt right off. He’s got no eyelids now.”
If Ed Sheeran’s character were dead, they would’ve just said that he died.
The operative words in this exchange are ‘came back.’ As in, returned.
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Ed Sheeran said that he believes his character is still out there.
“I think he’s just chillin.”
I think he’s right.
