If Your Goal Is To Earn More Money This Year, Best Check The Fine Print First

Work smarter, not harder.

It’s the start of a new decade which means everyone is really trying to actually make their 2020 New Year’s Resolutions stick. If you’re one of the (many) people who have decided that you’re going to take the plunge and sign up for that uni degree this year so you can get more $$$ in the long run, then there’s one thing you need to remember: always read the fine print.

After all, work smarter not harder.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Australia young people are unemployed or underemployed? That number is over double the national average, which is scary stuff. The more post-school study you do, the more employable you’ll be right? It makes sense.

Getting a job once you finish uni isn’t guaranteed I’m afraid, and all courses are not created equal. Last year, the Federal Government surveyed 120,000 graduates and found that over a quarter of them – 27.1% to be exact – hadn’t landed a job four months after they graduated.

Universities and uni degrees aren’t created equal when it comes to snagging a job, and this is where it comes in very handy to read the fine print. No matter what course you take, you’re going to want a uni that employers want to hire from.

If you’re Googling different universities, see if you can find their graduate employment rate – it should be somewhere on their website. The higher the percentage, the higher the number of people who scored a job pretty quickly once they graduated.

Universities like Federation University, with their 92% graduate employment rate, have the sort of numbers to be looking for. They also have the best starting salary for Victorian graduates, with people earning an average of $62,600 straight out of uni. New Year’s Resolution to make more dosh, here we come.

Spontaneous decisions are a lot of fun, but sometimes it really pays off to do your research and work out what you’re getting yourself into. This is one of those times. Happy course hunting!
