When Kanye West decided he wanted to make his foray into fashion design, we all knew he wasn’t going to be flogging tailored suits and stylish cravats. However, his latest sneaker drop has us convinced he’s on a mission to troll the world.
Earlier this morning, Twitter account @theyeezymafia posted a series of photos from an upcoming campaign featuring the new ‘Yeezy Foam Runner,’ which will be “landing in 2020.”
The chunky white ‘streamlined’ kicks have fans and followers asking two questions: WHAT ARE THOOOOSSSEE? And is Kanye ripping off Crocs!?
You’ve got to admit, the new Yeezy sneakers do give of that chunky, rubbery, hole-punched vibe of a pair of stylish Crocs – but does this make them better, or so much worse?
It’s not the first time Kanye West has trolled the fashion elite with his ‘disruptive’ designs. The rapper-turned-fashion designer found himself at the centre of countless memes last year when he stepped out in a pair of Yeezy Season 6 slides.
Why? Mostly because he wore them with socks and they were about three sizes TOO SMALL for him. When West cottoned onto the memes about his heel-hanging style, he was quick to explain that wearing them like this is the “Japanese way.”
He’s got a point: Japanese geta sandals are traditionally worn in a smaller size so your heel hangs off the end slightly. But I can’t help but think West knows what he’s doing when he drops these divisive shoe trends.
The same campaign featuring Ye’s controversial slides featured images of wife Kim Kardashian and other lookalike models in paparazzi style shots. The whole thing came across as a big middle finger to the paps and media who make money of Kimye’s image on a daily basis.
Is Kanye trolling his avid fashion followers in the same way? Perhaps we’ll never know. There is one thing we can guarantee, and that is whatever Kanye is putting down, the world is picking up, no matter what it is.
