Fandom is meant to be fun, in that it’s meant to be a joyful expression of your love and admiration for something or someone in a healthy, socially-acceptable way.
However, it’s somehow spiralled into being about abusing actors on Twitter and causing riots in McDonald’s. While most people agree that it’s mostly the people, not the fandom itself, there are some fandoms that have unfortunately become synonymous with toxic culture.
It’s the latter that Onion and Clickhole contributor Michelle Spies is hoping to investigate, setting up a (presumably) world-first “Worst Dedicated Fan Base” competition. And looking over the contenders, and results, it’s a doozy.
Many favorites have been eliminated and we are down to primarily fans of just individual guys.

As it stands, only three major intellectual properties remain in the quarterfinals: The Big Bang Theory, long-running TV series Supernatural, and odds-on favourite to take out the tournament, Rick And Morty.
The real surprises, however, have been the fandoms devoted to the cult of personality. Controversial video game streamer PewDiePie, Tesla CEO and excessive tweeter Elon Musk, and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino are all still in the running.
Most notably, Joe Rogan – host of the self-titled podcast beloved by edgelords everywhere – is turning out to be the dark horse of the tournament, beating strong competition in both followers of the Bachelor(ette) franchise, and freakin’ Marvel Comics.
If you have strong feelings about Woody Allen fans or think Tarantino fans are worse than Rick and Morty, you can head to Michelle’s Twitter to vote now.
