Zoe Kravitz Explains Exactly Why She Wants To Play Catwoman And It's Perfect

"Catwoman is such an iconic character."

We don’t know too much about Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the title role, but we do know some of the cast starring with the actor including Zoe Kravitz who is stepping into the role of Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman.

Kravitz has recently opened up about why she wanted the role so badly and how excited she is to play Catwoman – and her reasoning is perfect.

Speaking with ET at Hulu’s Television Critics Association winter press tour, the actress was asked about her upcoming role and why she decided to take it on.

“I think the whole Batman world… has always been the most interesting to me. I think Catwoman is such an iconic character. I was never into a lot of comic books, but that was always really intriguing to me. And then, of course, Michelle Pfeiffer and her performance has always been super inspiring to me. It just felt iconic,” she said.

Along with Pfeiffer, Kravitz also joins Anne Hathaway and Halle Berry in the list of people who have played the iconic character. She also explained how she plans on making the character her own and revealed she’d thought a lot about where she believes Catwoman fits into the Batman universe.

She said, “I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle, represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that. I think femininity means power, and I think it’s a different power than masculine power, and I think that’s something that’s really interesting about Batwoman and Catwoman.

“I think Batman represents a very masculine power and Catwoman represents a very feminine power, slightly more complicated and softer too. I like the idea you can be soft and you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

The actress also revealed that the pixie cut she’s been sporting lately is for the role and while she couldn’t say much about the actual film, she did say, “The script is wonderful. It’s really grounded and deep,” joking she couldn’t say more or she’d get fired.

Honestly, I can’t picture anyone more perfect for the role, Zoe Kravitz just exudes Catwoman energy and I’m so pumped to see her kick ass in the film.

Kravitz and Pattinson are set to co-star with Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard and Jeffry Wright.

The Batman hits theatres on June 25, 2021.
