What To Expect From Those 'Normal People' Bonus Episodes

Intense, annoying, beautiful romance.

As you’re likely already aware, the stars of Normal People – Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones – have reprised their roles as Connell and Marianne for a couple of surprise extra episodes.

Filmed for RTÉ Does Comic Relief, the two episodes take us into the lives of the leading characters after where the series wrapped up.

There was a lot of excitement on the Internet leading to the episode drop, as we’d heard news that we’d be getting a glimpse of our favourite characters well into the future.

Comic Relief founder Richard Curtis told Vulture that we can expect “a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now”.

The episodes have now hit the Internet and while Mescal and Edgar-Jones do reunite for one, they appear as their young selves. The pair bump into one another mid-confession with Hot Priest from Fleabag and proceed to talk over one-another/communicate as poorly as ever.

It’s the second episode that delivers the storyline set far into the future.

As the Metro reports, the future-set episode stars Peter McDonald and Deirdre O’Kane as older Connell and Marianne.

You’ll be glad to know that the pair are still very much together in their 60s. But their conversation about beans on toast shows that they still have no ability to complete full sentences.

If you think 40 years and (hopefully) some therapy would be enough to help these two succeed in saying *anything* to one another, think again. The couple stumbles through half-sentences about wanting to eat beans on toast for a solid two minutes.

The skit is funny, sweet and absolutely frustrating all at once. It’s perfect.

Proceeds from the production of these Normal People episodes are set to go to the Community Foundation for Ireland.  You can read on about the project here.
