The 'That '70s Show' Easter Egg In 'Stranger Things' Will Melt Your Heart

Someone needs to write the fan fiction immediately.

Although they hit our TV screens almost two decades apart, That ‘70s Show and Stranger Things are two iconic shows that have both amassed a cult following.

It’s understandable then, that their combined Twitter fandoms were sent into an absolute tailspin yesterday when one eagle-eyed user discovered a sneaky crossover between the two shows.

Twitter user @vintagemayfield took to the social media platform to share photos pointing out Donna and Eric from That ‘70s Show wearing the same sweaters as Max and Lucas from Stranger Things.

I’ll give you a minute to let that soak in.

@vintagemayfield captioned the mind-blowing comparison: “I can’t believe I connected the dots on this….two of my favorite ships having the same outfits….many thoughts head COMPLETELY FULL,” and received similar reactions in the responses to their post.

Because of the timeline, one Twitter user even suggested that Max and Lucas found Donna and Eric’s sweaters at a thrift store ten years after they had worn them in That ‘70s Show.

It seems highly unlikely that this costume design choice was just a freaky coincidence – Eric and Donna and Max and Lucas are two of TV’s greatest love stories, after all.

It’s not the first time the creators of Stranger Things have boggled the minds of fans with a cheeky easter egg, or two.

Reddit user LucasLeArtist noticed that in season three of the show, Jim Hopper channelled Martin Brody by reciting one of his exact lines from the 1975 classic Jaws: “I can do anything I want, I’m chief of police.”

CNET also reported that the phone number of Murray Bauman, another character from season three of Stranger Things, is actually real. Apparently, when you dial 618-625-8313, you hear a hilarious voicemail message from the character.

These are just a few of the clues, hidden jokes and references Stranger Things has cleverly weaved into various storylines. However, the nod to Eric and Donna from That ‘70s Show has to be the most wholesome and exactly what we all need today.
