It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

The Midnight Beast, Sound Of Your Year Seven Ringtone, Are Still Around

Shut up mum, I'm on MSN.

Are you ready to access the weird locked part of your memory that you store the lyrics to your favourite early high school songs in? I heard the opening lines of The Midnight Beast’s Tik Tok parody the other day, and was immediately smashed square in the face with nostalgia, so I gave them a google and guess what? They’re still a thing.

The year was 2009, Kesha’s Tik Tok was dominating the charts, and we were all Bluetoothing The Midnight Beast’s parody to each other on the bus to school. There was nothing funnier in this world than yelling “shut up Mum, I’m on MSN!” at each other, and none of us had to pay taxes. What a time to be alive.

Side note, if you haven’t heard of The Midnight Beast (I’m staring at you, people in this office who I’ve spent the last hour trying to convince to listen to The Midnight Beast YouTube links) are a parody band who were most famous for their cover of Kesha’s Tik Tok

Anyway, here’s what they’ve been up to since.

Outside of making their own TV show and releasing a couple of albums, they’ve stayed consistent with the YouTube videos.

Their YouTube channel has never come down, and they’ve been making original music as well as parodies for almost all of the last decade. They seem to have stopped about a year ago, but their last upload is a ten year anniversary video, recreating the original Tik Tok video – weird spinning and all.

I’m guessing though that the reason they haven’t made many videos is because they’ve been touring. Yep, you heard me correctly. Sadly they never made it down here to Australia (believe me, I checked), but they travelled around England as part of their most recent album, The Album That Nobody Asked For.

In honour of The Midnight Beast, I propose we all celebrate tonight by eating our dessert before our dinner. Less rebellious as an adult I guess, but the point remains the same.
