The Lizzie McGuire Reboot Might Not Be Doomed After All

This is what dreams are made of.

The saga of the Lizzie McGuire reboot has been an interesting one. We were all so excited when it was announced, but then it was put on hold very quickly. Hilary Duff herself begged Disney to let another streaming service pick up the reboot, and that was really the last we’d heard. After all that, we got news today that gives us hope the Lizzie McGuire reboot might still go ahead.

Hilary Duff has shared a screenshot of the original creative team working away via Zoom, as all of our interactions seems to be taking place at the moment.

Earlier in the week, Hilary Duff confirmed in an interview that there’s still an effort to get the project off the ground.

“There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit. I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like.”

Everyone is working from home, listen to the GOAT Team chat about other productions being made under lockdown…

“I just have to make sure it’s the right move for me and that I feel like I’m honouring her and the character, and that it will be relatable to the people who grew up with her because those are the people I really want to speak to.”

The fact that she still wants the show to be relatable is a major sticking point. There are rumours that a major reason the show has had a hard time getting off the ground is that a major plot line revolved around sex and cheating.

As Hilary herself said, though, “limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating” is incredibly difficult.

We certainly haven’t heard the last of Lizzie McGuire, that much seems sure.
