The 'First Wives Club' Squad Is Reuniting For A New Movie

Name a more iconic trio.

It’s been more than 20 years since First Wives Club hit our screens, but now Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler & Diane Keaton are back for an inter-generational comedy that’s about to knock our socks off!

‘Family Jewels’ is the name of New Republic Pictures’ new film, according to Deadline. It sees Hawn, Midler and Keaton play three women who are forced to spend the Christmas holiday period together because a man, that they were all once married to, has dropped dead in a department store in NYC. Also, all their children and grandchildren are there. Sound hilarious? We think so!

New Republic’s Brian Oliver (Black Swan, Rocketman, 1917), Bradley Fischer (Shutter Island, Suspiria, Zodiac) and Alan Nevins (What to Expect When You’re Expecting) are set to produce the film with Tracey Nyberg (I Am Legend, Seven Pounds) set to executive produce.

“This movie fits perfectly in our plan to finance and produce four to six major studio theatricals a year and puts movie stars back where they ought to be: on the big screen,” says Brian Oliver from New Republic who is set to produce the film.

Well, we’re glad it fits your plan!

Bradley Fischer, another producer of the film, says: “The chemistry of Diane, Bette and Goldie is unmatched and irresistible, and I’m thrilled to help reunite them onscreen for generations of fans.”

Damn straight.

The screenwriter for the film is Peter Hoare, who is the mastermind behind the screenplay for the Chris Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish film Down Under Cover, which was a smash hit at last year’s Cannes. Sadly, as of right now, this is all the information we have on the film.

But, given how iconic the First Wives Club was, we have no doubt that this new movie will be equally as iconic. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler & Diane Keaton’s first on-screen performance together was so inspiring to many people. The film showcased women supporting other women, whilst showcasing experiences of women over 30 and plus, it was just straight-up hilarious. While we don’t know much about the new movie, we get the feeling it’s going to have a similar mantra to the one we all know and love. We’re just really hoping that they end up recreating this forever-iconic scene.

It’s safe to say the internet has lost their minds over this news.

The news follows the 2018 announcement that there would be a First Wives Club reboot on television. The film will begin production later this year.

See you then!
