'The Crown' Is Getting A Sixth Season, Give Us Megxit Already

The Royal tea is piping hot.

Fans of the Royal family, you might want to put down your tea and scones because the hit Netflix series The Crown is returning for a sixth season.

According to multiple reports, The Crown’s creator Pete Morgan decided to take on yet another season of the show after changing his mind following the finale of season five.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” Morgan said in a statement.

The news of a sixth season is exciting for diehard fans of the show, but it also has viewers asking – what will the upcoming series cover, and most importantly, will we see Megxit play out on the small screen?

“To be clear, series six will not bring us any closer to present-day,” Morgan clarified in his statement. “It will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

Sadly, this sentiment was echoed by The Crown’s executive producer Suzanne Mackie, who told PA via BBC, “to be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we’ll ever go as far into the present day.”

Speaking of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, hear everything about Megxit below:

Since The Crown was released in 2016, it has depicted Queen Elizabeth II’s life from her wedding in 1947 to the early 21st century. The show has covered historic events including the Suez Crisis in 1956 as well as various prime ministers, including Winston Churchill, Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Harold Wilson and Edward Heath.

Actresses Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman have both portrayed the Queen in The Crown, with Imelda Staunton taking on the role for season five.

“I’m greatly honored,” Staunton told ET in May. “I don’t want to let the air go out of the balloon and I really have to bring it home. I would love to do that for all the people who have gone before me.”

Other additions to the show include Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and the arrival of newcomer Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Meghan and Harry’s bombshell decision to step down from royal duties will be portrayed on season six of The Crown, but we’re still in for some scolding hot Royal tea.
