Sony Hits Pause On PS5 Event To Respect BLM, Cue The Entitled Gamers

What a surprise.

With all the anti-racism and Black Lives Matter protests happening across America, now’s not the time to try and wrest the spotlight away, even if you’re a big company like Sony and you want to reveal the PlayStation 5 to all those PS5-craving gamers out there.

Sony clearly knows that now’s not the time to reveal its PlayStation 5, yet it seems like a heap of entitled gamers don’t care about anything other than getting their PS5 fix.

The GOAT team talk about the protests going on in America and Black Lives Matter on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

A big PlayStation 5 livestream event was originally scheduled for June 4 and was supposed to be a massive unveiling of the console and a bunch of PS5 games. However, in light of the Black Lives Matter protests, Sony has opted to delay this PlayStation 5 event so that “more important voices can be heard”.

With big brands and companies showing solidarity to George Floyd and the Black Lives Matters protests (even if some of the sentiment comes off as tone-deaf and/or hypocritical from some brands), this is completely the right move from Sony and it definitely wouldn’t have been an easy decision to make given the big marketing push that’s happened and the resources into making this event a reality.

Broadcasting how awesome the PS5 is and drumming up excitement for the console isn’t a good look when America is literally on fire is not a good look. There are far more important things to worry and think about than the PS5 right now and it’s a good thing Sony recognises it.

This display of support for the Black Lives Matters protests from Sony has unfortunately awakened a slew of entitled gamers who are pissed off over how this delay ruined their day of frothing over some PS5 games.

We won’t embed any of the horrendous sentiment being displayed by whiny gamers over the delay of the PlayStation 5 event since those are voices that don’t need to be amplified. One just needs to head over to the replies in Sony’s tweet about the PS5 delay to see the cesspool of gamer entitlement.

All the complaining is exactly what you expect – i.e whinging about not including politics in gaming, tone-deaf cries of “all lives matter”, empty threats of becoming Xbox fanboys now because “Xbox would never do this“, and just an overall sentiment of “but mah PS5 games, what about meeeee?!?” rather than realising that there are far more important things for focus on than the PlayStation 5.

We shouldn’t be surprised that Sony’s decision to delay its PlayStation 5 event caused a heap of entitled gamers to crawl out of their basement. It’s par for the course for them.

No new date has been announced for the PlayStation 5 event but that’s not important right now.

PlayStation 5s can be replaced but lives cannot. Right now we need to be talking about the Black Lives Matters protests in America, how shit has hit the fan due to incompetence of its leadership, and where do we go from here to make things better.
