Smash Mouth Got Dragged Through The Swamp Over Taylor Swift Shade

Ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Taylor Swift’s folklore came to us as a surprise release over the weekend, and became the perfect immersive soundtrack escape from dreary days, all around the world. Unfortunately, Smash Mouth didn’t get the memo that Taylor Swift has been through enough ridicule and it’s time she got a proper apology.

folklore is Taylor Swift’s 8th studio album, and is an amalgamation of stories that she made up in her mind. The album was made completely in isolation, and feels like she’s had the chance to find her way back to herself since the starkness of her previous albums Reputation and Lover. It’s a masterpiece.

Taylor was greeted on Twitter by a basic, low-effort tweet from Smash Mouth, of Shrek fame. He simply tweeted, “borelore”.

Smash Mouth haven’t been spoken about since the announcement that they were headlining what Vice calls, the most ‘depressing concert lineup‘ so maybe in addition to an apology, they can flick Taylor Swift a ‘thank you’ card for keeping them relevant.

Taylor Swift fans were quick to call out Smash Mouth and delivered some absolutely cutting blows to the one-hit-wonders.

Some fans felt it was their civil duty to remind Smash Mouth that their rent was due, even though they dissed folklore, which is nice of them.

Even though Smash Mouth clearly aren’t digging on Taylor Swift’s new vibe, it seems that the rest of the world is absolutely lapping it up. It’s doing absolute numbers on streaming platforms.

folklore was streamed 80.6 million times on Spotify in its first day, the highest first-day streams for a female artist on the platform. Taylor’s album also received over 35 million streams on Apple Music, and was the most-streamed pop album on that platform on the day it released. Far out.

Long live Taylor Swift, a musical chameleon and a legend of our time.
