Removing The Pool Ladder Won't Help You In This New Sims Reality Show

Ooh Be Gah!

In an unlikely turn of events, The Sims is here to cure our 2020 boredom.

If you’re missing the good old days of WooHoo-ing and the Grim Reaper, but you don’t feel like whipping out your old PC computer to do so, we’ve got just the solution for you. The Sims is back and it’s more lifelike than ever, with a brand new reality show.

Speaking of iconic games, we spoke about ‘Animal Crossing’ on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Introducing: The Sims Spark’d, an American reality game-show where Sims players compete with one another for the best, most creative story. According to the trailer, the show follows a similar format to most reality shows: the contestants have a goal, they present their work to a panel of judges, people are eliminated and there’s a cash prize of $100,000 USD at the end.

We suppose we shouldn’t be shocked that such a reality-series exists. While this format has worked traditionally with clothing designs, home renovation and cooking, lately reality shows have taken a turn for the niche. And Sims is the coolest niche thing there is. Take that Lego Masters.

In a statement made to The Verge, the GM of The Sims franchise – Lyndsay Pearson – said,  “Something that has always been so special to The Sims is the community and how much our players connect with each other to celebrate, share, collaborate, and show off the things they’ve been able to make or share their stories… What we’re doing with Spark’d is a really interesting evolution of exactly that. It’s the same DNA, the same motivation.”

Okay, but we wonder if these contestants will spend a lengthy period of time making one world because we don’t know about you, but we’re big believers in starting from scratch every time we play. Just saying.

The four-episode series will kick off on July 17th on the American network TBS, with no word on how we can access this in Australia. BuzzFeed’s “Multiplayer” YouTube channel will be a digital platform for the series but will be available to view at a later date.

In terms of the people you’ll be watching on screen, the judges are made up of a few celebs and influencers. The panel is made up of Tayla Parx (singer), Kelsey Impicciche (YouTuber), Dave Miotke (a game developer who has worked on The Sims franchise) and Rayvon Owen (an American Idol alumni), who will host the show. There will be 12 contestants in the reality show. Watch the trailer here.

If you feel like playing Sims 4, here’s how you can play for free. Will you be tuning in to this Sims reality show?
