Let me throw a potential statement that could hypothetically be uttered at some point: “And the Oscar goes to… Pornhub!” It sounds pretty ludicrous that an adult content platform like Pornhub could ever win an Oscar, but that hypothetical scenario could well become reality at some point because the company is branching out into non-adult content.

According to Variety, Pornhub will be releasing its first ever non-adult film for streaming on its platform. The film in question is a documentary is titled Shakedown from filmmaker and artist Leilah Weinraub and it is a “stream-of-consciousness, nonfiction narrative” about queer men and women in the lesbian strip club scene in Los Angeles during the early 2000s. Now that is an awesome sentence I didn’t think I would ever end up writing.
It may seem weird for Pornhub to suddenly branch out into non-adult content when it is doing so well with its current adult offerings, but the numbers back up the company’s decision to delve into slightly less R18+ offerings as its 2019 data reveals over 115 million visits a day, 39 billion unique searches and 1.36 million hours of new content uploaded.
Those are numbers that would make streaming services like Netflix envious.
We have many laughs here about all the stuff Pornhub gets up to and the various insights into what people like fapping to, but seeing the company dipping its toes into non-adult content is honestly great and it would honestly be great if it wins an Oscar statuette at some point.
The joke (but also not really a joke) used to be “I read Playboy only for the articles.” Soon it’ll be “I watch Pornhub only for the non-adult content.”
