Now The 'Scarface' Reboot Is In Good Hands, Will It Bop Or Flop?

Say hello to yet another reboot.

It’s always daunting when the film industry decides to reboot a classic, which makes this Scarface reboot somewhat of a worry. Having said that, it has been revealed that the project is in very capable hands.

Speaking of films that have been rebooted, we spoke about ‘Star Wars’ on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Luca Guadagnino is the one in charge of directing this new Scarface flick. Given his filmography includes, Call Me By Your Mind, Susperia and A Bigger Splash we would argue that this reboot is in excellent hands. Specifically, Call Me By Your Mind and Susperia were both critically-acclaimed and praised for their impressive direction and thus, it feels like this Universal Pictures reboot has a shot at being a box-office smash.

Also, while early versions of the scripts were drafted by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Jonathan Herman and Paul Attanasio, the latest version is written Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. These two have No Country for Old Men and Fargo under their belts, which of course both won Screenplay Academy Awards.

Speaking of The Oscars, check out our recap on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

In terms of the rest of the crew, Scarface is being produced by Dylan Clark, executive produced by Scott Stuber, Brian Williams and Marco Morabito. Also, Senior VP of production will be Jay Polidoro and the director of development is Lexi Barta.

It should also be noted that the Scarface that we all know and love is actually a remake in that of itself. Yep, the Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer cult-classic is actually a remake of a 1932 film. So, perhaps, we can’t be too quick to judge this new flick.

The new Scarface is certainly going to be released in a new context, so it’ll be interesting to see if the director makes changes to the film to reflect a contemporary political climate.

We know that the industry and prone to remakes of classic films because it brings in a guaranteed audience, but at the end of the day, this project looks like it’s got the ultimate crew behind it.

Are you going to see this new Scarface reboot? Or do you think it’ll flop at the box-office?
