Nothing Will Haunt You Like This US Conservative's Rendition Of Cardi B's 'WAP'

Prepare to clutch your pearls.

Conservative US political commentator Ben Shapiro reciting Cardi B’s new track about female genitalia – what could go wrong!? Evidently, a lot.

Ben Shapiro – a conservative political speaker, author and editor-in-chief of The Daily Wire – has taken to his daily podcast to clap back at Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new track ‘WAP’ and has unintentionally turned himself into an instant meme. Hear all about the ‘WAP’ backlash below:

It’s hard to decide whether it’s Shapiro’s deadpan delivery of the song’s x-rated lyrics, or his decision to say “p-word” and “d-word” instead of the original words that makes this one of the most haunting memes of 2020 – but either way, it’s a lot.

Speaking about the song, Shapiro said, “Guys, this is what feminists fought for. It’s what feminism is all about. It’s not really about women being treated as independent, full-rounded human beings, it’s about wet ass p-word. And if you say anything differently, it’s because you’re a misogynist, you see.”

The conservative’s attempt at dragging the track quickly backfired, resulting in a tidal wave of hilarious tweets.

One user tweeted, “the real reason Ben Shapiro is mad at Megan and Cardi is because they’re both taller than him,” another posted, “Ben Shapiro is what happens when a YouTube comment thinks it’s a peer reviewed article.”

YouTuber Ellen Rose tweeted, “I can’t believe we live in a world where Ben Shapiro thought that angrily reading out the lyrics to ‘WAP’ like a pearl-clutching mother at a school council meeting would not be extremely embarrassing for him.”

Even Cardi B cottoned on to the memes and reposted this extremely troubling remix of his rendition of ‘WAP’.

Sadly, it’s not the first time he has taken a failed dig at Cardi B. In 2018, Shapiro recited (and analysed) the lyrics to her hit song ‘Bodak Yellow’. Twitter user @AsteadWesley posted a snippet of his analysis with the caption, “Biggest compliment I can pay ‘Bodak Yellow’ is that the lyrics still smack even when read by Ben Shapiro.”

Will this latest round of memes be a lesson learned for Ben Shapiro? Only time, and many more hilarious tweets, will tell.
