We all know Lizzo radiates confidence and doesn’t give a flying crap what people think of her. Well she’s somehow managed to take confidence to the next level after she unashamedly twerked her way onto the jumbotron mid-basketball game.
During the Lakers-Timberwolves match, Lizzo was sitting in the front row and enjoying herself. When the camera decided to give her the spotlight, she grabbed it with her hands and didn’t let go, busting out some moves and twerking her thong-clad butt to the camera.
Unsurprisingly, Lizzo’s display of bare-arse twerking caused a bunch of folks on the internets to clutch at their pearl necklaces and claiming how inappropriate it was for her to display such a risque outfit (she was wearing fishnets and an oversized black T-shirt dress that had a large cutout in the back that exposed her thong) in a family-friendly environment, while others decided to go down the body-shaming route.
To the body-shamers, well we won’t talk about them because they don’t deserve the attention and Lizzo embracing her physique is the kind of positive energy we need these days.
As for the pearl clutchers who have their underwear in a knot over Lizzo’s underwear, it seems awfully convenient they they whinge about her and forget the scantily-clad cheerleaders we see at every basketball game.
And that’s not even mentioning other risque outfits celebs have worn to basketball games, such as Nicki Minaj’s leather bondage outfit to a 2018 Lakers game or Rihanna’s no bra, see-through shirt ensemble at a 2014 Raptors game. Don’t really remember any discourse over that and yet people are having a whinge at Lizzo for doing the same thing.
Rather than be one of those people complaining over Lizzo showing her arse at a Lakers game, we should channel some of her confidence instead. Life would be so much more fun if everyone could openly thirst over Karl-Anthony Towns during an interview, which is exactly what Lizzo did.
Lizzo knows who she is and if we’re brutally honest here, her twerking display is a genius marketing move because all the buzz she generated with her bare arse coincided with the release of her new ‘Good As Hell’ music video.
She knows what she’s doing.
Don’t ever stop twerking or being unashamedly you, Lizzo. Can’t wait when she brings that fierce confidence to Australia for her Red Room (which you can win invites for right here).
