Netflix Is Saying Seeya To Self-Isolation With Free Watching Parties

Quarantine, who?

As the world continues to grapple with the coronavirus criss, all of this self-isolation and social distancing is beginning to feel a little lonely. It’s even worse if you’re in a 14-day quarantine and can’t see or touch your loved ones. We do, however, have one saving grace: our beloved Netflix.

If you’ve already binge-watched literally everything Netflix has to offer, the streaming platform has come up with an ingenious new feature for those stuck in coronavirus lockdown.

Find inspiration and get creative with your quarantine below:

Right now, Netflix is offering ‘Netflix Party,’ a Google Chrome extension that allows you to watch content at the same time as your friends.

According to the official website, Netflix Party “synchronises video playback and adds group chat to your favourite Netflix shows,” which means you can catch up on Sex Education or Stranger Things with your mates while catching up on each other’s days.

Self-isolation, who?

All you have to do to enable Netflix Party is open Google Chrome, head to netflixparty.com, click ‘get Netflix Party for free,’ add the extension to your browser, make sure your friends and family do the same, and then movie night is a go.

As for what you should watch during your Netflix Party, why not enjoy some communal anxiety with Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, have a crying party while watching Marriage Story, lust over Peter Kavinsky in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel, or reminisce over a classic like Notting Hill.

It’s just one of the many ways media and entertainment providers are trying to make the coronavirus crisis a more comfortable experience for their consumers. Adult entertainment giant Pornhub is offering free premium subscriptions to residents in Spain, multiple gaming platforms are offering free downloads, and many of your favourite artists are live-streaming concerts and performances via social media.

Who said lockdown had to be lonely?
