Mario's Joining The Iso Party With A Massive Remastered Back Catalogue Of Games

Wa-Hoo!

Some good news in amongst all of this is that the Super Mario series – aka the best video game series of all time, you can’t change my mind – is turning 35 this year. Yes, the world has been blessed with Mario for three and a half decades which means Nintendo gets to celebrate, and we might be getting some remastered games as a present.

According to Video Game Chronicle, Nintendo is going to announce their plans to re-release most of Super Mario’s back catalogue this year, all remastered for Nintendo Switch. Some of the games set for remastering are 1997’s Super Mario 64, 2002’s Super Mario Sunshine, and 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy.

It’s reported that the announcement was going to be given at E3 2020 this June, but sadly E3 has been cancelled for the year, because the COVID-19 pandemic means that we can’t do anything fun in large groups. Nintendo may yet opt for a digital showcase, but we don’t have any confirmation of that yet.

When Mario turned 30 in 2015, Nintendo released some special edition merch, including two 8-bit Mario Amiibos (the figurines that connect to various consoles). On the 30th birthday itself, Super Mario Maker for Wii U was released.

At the moment we don’t have official confirmation from Nintendo that this is going ahead, but they also haven’t denied any of the rumours yet. They’ve been keeping their cards close to their chest and just saying that they don’t want to comment on that right now.

Either way, if the new Animal Crossing game wasn’t quite enough to get you over the line in terms of getting yourself a Nintendo Switch (come on though, as if you don’t need the calming energy of Animal Crossing right now), may I humbly suggest that now is the time to get your game on.
