Margot Robbie Catfished Conservatives On Twitter In The Name Of Great Acting

Margot is the queen of committing.

Margot Robbie will go to great lengths to nail a movie role – and her most recent appearance in Bombshell is no exception.

For those who haven’t seen it (and trust me, it’s a cracker) Bombshell is based on the real life accounts of several women at Fox News who set out to expose CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.

It stars Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson and Margot Robbie as Kayla Pospisil, a young Fox News producer who falls prey to Ailes, played by John Lithgow.

In a recent interview with Variety, Robbie explained how she prepared to play the role of Pospisil, and it involved some rather fishy social media behaviour. “I didn’t understand her to begin with,” Robbie said. “But my process is to do a tonne of research, consider every single option, know every single situation, scenario, thought and motivation inside and out, so I can step onto set and then let it all go.”

According to the Aussie actress, this involved creating a fake Twitter account so she could “observe the performative opinionating of ‘young millennial conservative girls.’” While Robbie doesn’t specify who she followed on Twitter, Variety suggests the controversial conservative political commentator Tomi Lahren is a good guess.

It’s not the first time Robbie has fully committed to her roles. The actress was almost unrecognisable as controversial figure skater Tonya Harding in 2017’s I, Tonya, and same goes for her appearance in last year’s Mary Queen of Scots.

Clearly, Robbie is happy to dive head first into her movie roles, even if it means playing catfish on Twitter for a little while. With roles in Birds of Prey and the Barbie film coming next, who knows what form we’ll see this extremely talented Aussie in next.
