Reese Witherspoon teaming up with Mindy Kaling for Legally Blonde 3 is the only news we need to hear today.
Some movies have the perfect trilogy. There’s the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, the original Star Wars trilogy and even the High School Musical trilogy, but in most cases, the quality of sequels usually drops off around the 3rd film mark, resulting in disappointing endings to treasured beginnings.

Take Legally Blonde for example, Legally Blonde was a cultural reset. This 2001 flick cemented Reese Witherspoon as a household name, gave us the bend-and-snap and did it all with a feminist sentiment underlying the film. Literally, incredible. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde was also a moment. It certainly wasn’t as impactful as the first, but it sure gave us the heartwarming content we’d come to expect from the OG film. But then, there was Legally Blondes, a straight-to-DVD sequel that ruined the damn thing.
Well, looks like Reese Witherspoon is here to rectify that because she’s brought on some incredible people for the official 3rd instalment of the series. According to Deadline, Legally Blonde 3 is bringing on comedic-genius, Mindy Kaling for the ride in addition to Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor. Legally Blonde 3 will be the second film that Dan Goor and Mindy Kaling collaborate on, with the first coming to us real soon.
In an Instagram post, Mindy Kaling joked, “Finally some use for my Elle Woods fan fiction!” before saying, “Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!” We couldn’t be more excited if we tried.
Reese Witherspoon also addressed this news on her Instagram account saying, “Great news alert!! Some things are just meant to be! I’m SOOO excited to have (Mindy Kaling) and (Dan Goor) writing Legally Blonde 3! This is #ElleWoodsApproved!”
It’s unclear whether or not Mindy Kaling will also star in the film, but given the above photo, we certainly hope she makes a cameo at least. Look at her, she’s perfect.
Either way, with Never Have I Ever, The Office and Late Night under her belt, there is no doubt that Mindy Kaling is going to make this film a box-office smash.
