Jessica Simpson Definitely Regrets Turning Down ‘The Notebook’

It wasn't over, it still isn't over.

In the early ‘00s, Jessica Simpson was inescapable. She had just dropped ‘With You’, a pop single to save the music industry, she had Americans questioning if tuna was chicken and she had a sister that was making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

If you’re a Jessica Simpson fan, we had a chat about her career and her memoir ‘Open Book’ on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

As a result, Hollywood wanted a piece of her. Fast-forward to today and it has been revealed that Jessica Simpson was up for a cinematic role of one of the biggest films of all time. Yep, before starring in the Dukes of Hazzard reboot, Jessica Simpson was up for the role of Allie Calhoun… As in Rachel McAdams’ character in The Notebook.

In her memoir Open Book, the reality star opens up about the role, saying: “I turned it down…  because they wouldn’t budge on taking out the sex scene, and it would have been with Ryan Gosling, of all people.”

We know that Ryan Gossling is the hottest man on the planet now, but we imagine this would have been especially difficult for Jessica, having revealed earlier in the book that she had a crush on the teenage star. The two of them had auditioned for ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ together back in the ’90s.

This is how I imagine Jessica Simpson reacted.

But the worst part of this whole situation happened when the film was released. In ‘Open Book’, Simpson discusses seeing the movie for the first time whilst on an aeroplane, about to separate from her husband: “The most romantic movie in the world, and I was leaving Nick … The movie was on every screen, and I was swept up into it, wishing I had that great love that would be forever.”

Oh Jessica, hindsight is a wonderful thing, huh?
