Jess Was The Shining Light On ‘Masterchef’ In A Very Grim Week

We miss her already.

Over the entire weekend, Channel 10 was promoting that an emotional Masterchef elimination was coming, but we never in our wildest dreams thought it would be Jess.

Last night’s episode of Masterchef was one of the saddest episodes to date, as we said goodbye to not only, a fan-favourite of the show, but also the kitchen’s MVP.

Jess has been such a radiant personality in the Masterchef kitchen since day one. From constantly helping other contestants when they struggled to holding doors open for everyone else, Jess never played dirty: she was the definition of sportsmanship in the Masterchef kitchen and for that, we’re going to miss her so much.

We spoke about this season of ‘Masterchef’ on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Her elimination left no dry eye in the house. Jess was crying which caused Melissa to start crying in addition to other Masterchef contestants, Reece, Khahn and Brenden, who were all also crying, which meant that all of Australia was crying. It was just a very sad, sad moment. Honestly, you just have to watch it to really understand. But beware, you’ll need tissues.

What made it all worse was that, because of social-distancing rules that were in place at the time of filming, no one was allowed to hug Jess, so the contestants just had to watch from a 2-metre distance as their friend bawled her eyes out in leaving the competition.

Ultimately, this was just a really sad ending to a particularly grim week.

Just a few days prior, the Daily Mail uncovered some homophobic remarks that another Masterchef contestant, Reynold, had posted online in 2014. On a bodybuilding forum, Reynold made an anti-gay statement, saying: “I wish the world made a united decision where they will capture all gay people and put them on a remote island full of gays, that way straight ppl (people) will be happy and the freaks can go on and f** themselves…”

And while Reynold did apologise via a statement made to Daily Mail via Channel 10, it didn’t necessarily paint the Masterchef contestant in a positive light. In apologising, Reynold said, “I would like to offer my sincere and deepest apologies for the comments that I made in 2014. I am ashamed of these comments and I regret them immensely…”

All-in-all, going into last night’s episode of Masterchef was difficult, but the ending of the show somehow made us feel even worse. We’re really going to miss Jess and the positive energy she brought.
