Here's Why 'The Last Dance' Is The New Doco Series Breaking The Internet

Move over Tiger King.

The first two episodes of The Last Dance have just hit our laptop screens via Netflix, and boy are we in for a wild ride. If you didn’t know, The Last Dance is the 10-part documentary series that follows NBA legend Michael Jordan and the rest of the Chicago Bulls during the height of their careers.

Along with behind-the-scenes, never-before-seen footage, The Last Dance also brings in exclusive interviews with other basketball players, musicians and two ex-U.S. Presidents (Bill Clinton and Barack Obama).

The Last Dance premiered last night in the States on ESPN, and to put it simply, it broke the internet. And so, if you’re looking for reasons to watch the series, allow us to break down the reasons why The Last Dance went viral.

Obama’s Official Title

Ex-U.S. President, Barrack Obama, is a known Chicago Bulls superfan, which makes his appearance in The Last Dance that much more special. In the doco-series, Obama recalls being unable to buy tickets to Bulls’ games when he was growing up in Chicago during the dynasty years. But, what is really breaking the internet is the chosen title the producers gave him. Instead of calling him the 44th president of the United States, he was dubbed a ‘Former Chicago Resident.’ Not to mention, they dubbed Bill Clinton a ‘Former Arkansas Governor.’

It’s like they wanted these scenes to become memes.

‘Space Jam’ References

For all the ‘90s kids out there, get ready for a whole lot of your childhood to suddenly make sense. As Australians, we never fully grasped the force that was the NBA when we were kids, and so ‘Space Jam’ was probably more about the Looney Tunes more than it was basketball. But, given the release of documentary, that’s all about to change. The Last Dance is about to expose a whole lot of easter eggs in ‘Space Jam’ that might require another viewing.

Michael Jordan’s Iconic Reactions

There are not enough Michael Jordan GIFS on the Internet – there simply aren’t. But, that’s all about to change, thanks to The Last Dance. The scene in question depicts Michael Jordan getting ready for some sort of event when a staff member tries to get his autograph, and boy, what a mistake that was. We need this reaction as a GIF stat. And while you’re at it, can you make this hug rejection a GIF too? Thanks.

The Netflix series is unveiling two new episodes weekly, and given its chronological order, we guarantee you’ll be hooked. Happy watching!
