Here Are All The Movies That Have Been Delayed Due To Coronavirus

'Black Widow' is the latest film to be pushed back.

The coronavirus disease has caused our day-to-day routine to shift dramatically. As the Government increasingly recommends social isolation, events and gatherings of more than 10 people are being cancelled or postponed – and sadly, lots of movies are being delayed.

People are out and about less, which means fewer people going to the cinema. As a result, movie production studios and film distributors are pushing back a lot of their releases that were scheduled to come out around this time. Here’s a comprehensive list of the films that have been pushed back.

Black Widow

Just a few hours ago it was announced that this Scarlett Johansson led flick was postponed to an unknown date because of coronavirus. The Marvel film was slated to hit cinemas in just a few months on the first of May, 2020. Notably, Black Widow wasn’t pushed back along with other big titles to come out of Disney, presumably because the company wanted to release one of the many blockbusters they had scheduled, on time. However, it looks like that is no longer the case.

No Time To Die

The latest Daniel Craig led movie from the James Bond franchise, No Time to Die, was one of the first titles to announce a delayed-release. MGM postponed the U.S. release of this Billie Eilish-assisted flick from April 10 to November 25, 2020. We can only hope it doesn’t get another delayed extension. You can see the film’s official statement here.

The New Mutants

This poor movie can’t catch a break. After a string of delays dating all the way back to 2018, this film has copped it once more. This X-Men movie was finally due to come out on the third of April 2020, but like all the other films on this list, it’s been pushed back. The 20th Century Studios film was pushed back by Disney to an unknown date. But, we do know that the delayed-release should still come out this year.

A Quiet Place 2

The Australian premiere of this John Krasinski-directed thriller was due to happen this week. However, Paramount pushed the Quiet Place follow-up to an unknown date because of coronavirus concerns. On Instagram, John Krasinski wrote, “One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together, Well due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that. As insanely excited as we are for you all to see this movie … I’m gonna wait to release the film until we CAN see it together! So here’s to our group movie date! See you soon!”

Mulan

Disney postponed the March 27 release of its highly anticipated live-action movie, Mulan because of coronavirus. Sadly, the studio has not yet announced a new date. The lack of a release date has got some critics thinking the film might debut on Disney Plus, which could be interesting…

Peter Rabbit 2

Won’t someone think of the poor rabbits! Sadly the sequel to the James Corden-aided movie was delayed from its original release date due to coronavirus. But, Sony has confirmed that the international release date of the film will be on August 7 (instead of March).

Fast & Furious 9

The 9th movie in the explosive Universal franchise has been pushed back from its initial May 22nd release date by almost a full year to April 2nd, 2021 due to coronavirus. In a statement they the Fast team said, “We feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film… Moving will allow our global family to experience our new chapter together. We’ll see you next spring.”

The Woman in the Window

This 20th Century movie, lead by Amy Adams was scheduled to screen in cinemas on the 15th of April. However, due to coronavirus concerns, the film will not hit theatres next month. There is no new release date in sight.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

This Dev Patel-led movie was scheduled to hit cinemas on the 8th of May but has been postponed to an unknown date due to coronavirus. Sad.

The Secret Garden

In the UK, Studiocanal is also postponing the upcoming release of The Secret Garden from April 3 to August 14. However, it remains unclear whether this will reflect the new Australian release date.

In the meantime, some of these movie studios are making movies that are currently in cinemas, available for streaming. In the States, Cats, Invisible Man, Emma and Trolls: World Tour are copping early releases on streaming services to compensate for cinemas closing early. There is no confirmation as of yet if this will be applicable to the Australian streaming service sites.
