Harrison Ford has confirmed he will be returning as Indiana Jones for a fifth movie in the franchise, revealing he begins work on the movie in the coming months.
According to WTHR, 77-year-old appeared in an interview on CBS’ Sunday Morning Show and was asked about the toughest part about returning to his iconic roles and the actor, who has reprised his role as Han Solo in recent years, joked, “Trying not to look funny running around in tight pants and high boots.”
“I’ll try and give you a more appropriate answer,” he added. “Considering that I’m going to start doing Indiana Jones in about two months.”
He went on to say, “I’m always delighted to come back to these characters. If we have the opportunity to make another, it’s because people have enjoyed them.”
“I feel obliged to make sure our efforts are as ambitious as they were when we started. You have a sense of responsibility to your customers.”
According to CinemaBlend, he also dropped some hints about the film, “I’m not going to share the story with you because that doesn’t seem like a good idea. But we’ll see new developments in his life, his relationship. We’ll see part of his history resolved.”
The last Indiana Jones film, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 and was largely considered a flop.
A question on many people’s minds is whether or not Shia LaBeouf will reprise his role as Mutt from the last movie. However, writer David Koepp said in 2018 that LaBeouf’s character isn’t expected to return.
The publication also reports that Koepp said in 2019, “We’ve got a good idea this time.”
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kelly has also confirmed Indiana Jones 5 will be a continuation of the story and not a reboot and Ford has previously said that when he is gone, the character will not be up for grabs.
Steven Spielberg will direct Indiana Jones 5 after finishing work on his remake of West Side Story.
