Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Show Looks As Batsh*t Crazy As You'd Expect

"Reach new depths."

Goop lord Gwyneth Paltrow is taking her enthusiasm for extreme health advice to the small screen with the new Netflix series The Goop Lab – and as expected, it looks batsh*t crazy.

The show, which drops on Netflix on January 24th, sees Paltrow and Goop Chief Content Officer Elise Loehnen consult health researchers, doctors and “alternative health practitioners” on all sorts of subjects including energy healing, psychedelic drugs, and orgasmic meditation.

According to Paltrow, The Goop Lab “explores the universal questions we’re inherently curious about.”

“We took the open-minded approach that we’ve cultivated at Goop and applied a different, visual lens with Netflix. In the process, we found new ways to answer this: ‘How do we make the most of our lives?”

We can only hope The Goop Lab comes with a disclaimer considering the amount of times Paltrow has copped backlash in recent years for making unsubstantiated health and wellness claims

In 2015, Paltrow introduced the world to ‘vaginal steaming,’ which involves sitting on a “mini-throne,” where a “combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus.”

Gynecologists slammed the idea, explaining that there’s no scientific evidence it works, and it could even cause burns or bacterial infections.

In 2017, the fan of ‘conscious uncoupling’ wrote about jade eggs, and why popping an overpriced rose quartz jade stone egg into your lady parts would “spiritually detox” you.

Again, Paltrow faced major backlash, with multiple doctors pointing out that the eggs could potentially lead to infection or more serious health issues. Goop even faced a lawsuit for spruiking the jade eggs (amongst other products) and making medical claims that aren’t backed by science. Last year, Paltrow’s company settled the lawsuit for a cool USD $145K.

You’ve gotta give it to Paltrow, she’s trying to do her bit for women’s health and happiness and she DGAF what people think. We can only hope The Goop Lab is coming from a place of expert advice and researched wellness claims.
