Eminem Made Good Points About Gun Control, Until He Rapped About Ariana Grande

Should've stopped while he was ahead.

Eminem dropped a bit of a bombshell on everyone when he decided to release his brand new album, Music To be Murdered By, out of the blue with absolutely no warning or announcement.

As suggested by the album’s subtle title, one of Music To Be Murdered By‘s big themes is the need for greater gun control Eminem has quite a few things to say about it, especially with the music video for his song, ‘Darkness’.

The ‘Darkness’ music video sees Eminem reenact the horrific 2017 Las Vegas shootings, which left 59 dead and over 800 wounded before it ends on a written message demanding greater gun control. It’s about as subtle as a punch to the face but the message is clear, though it has drawn mixed reactions from fans.

Having said that though, Eminem has undercut the power out of his greater gun control argument by rapping about Ariana Grande on another song on the album.

On the track, ‘Unaccommodating’, Eminem raps “But I’m contemplating yelling ‘bombs away’ on the game / Like I’m outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting,” which is clearly a reference – and a pretty tone-deaf one at that – to the awful bombing that took place at her 2017 Manchester concert which left 22 people dead.

Unsurprisingly, Ariana Grande fans aren’t too happy (via The Guardian) about Eminem’s Manchester reference and have taken him to task for it on social media, which has gone about as well as you’d expect from fired up teens with access to the internet.

There’s no denying that America is in need of greater gun control laws and having someone as popular as Eminem making a statement for it goes a long way. But any serious, socially conscious message gets ruined somewhat when you immediately attempt to make a joke out of a similar tragedy.

Eminem was oh so close to making a big statement here and he just had to mess it up because he just couldn’t help but rap about Ariana Grande (again).
