Co-Star’s Blink-And-You’ll-Miss-It Protest Of Google’s ‘Anti-Astrology' Bias

"This is unacceptable."

Co-Star launched a protest against the ‘anti-astrology prejudice’ of Google, and actually succeeded in their demands. It might be early in the year, but I think that just might be the most 2020 sentence I will ever write.

Co-Star is well known for being the sassiest astrology app out there, and even if you’re really not that into astrology you’ve probably seen screenshots of their recommendations for the day. Until recently it was only available on iPhone, but to the joy of many they finally launched an Android app in January. It was up until February 5th when they were “unceremoniously removed” from the Google Play store.

They were officially removed from Google Play for metadata policy violations, but Co-Star reckon there’s something more sinister going on. Specifically, they accused Google of having an ‘anti-astrology prejudice’ which is a phrase that I never thought I’d read, but I’m so glad I did.

The kicker? The last two sentences announcing that if their app wasn’t back on Google Play by 5pm Friday, they’d be heading down to the Google building for a full on protest. Rally the troops. Bring your friends.

Sadly for everyone who wanted to see what a Co-Star protest outside Google would look like, but thankfully for everyone else, Google listened. Co-Star is now back on Google Play. As of this morning, anybody with an Android can once again get that sweet Co-Star action straight on their phone.

Aside from this whole story being bonkers, I’m going to go into the rest of the year channelling the energy of Co-Star. Ask for what you want, and get together a straight up protest to make sure people are listening.

It all sounds a bit reckless, I know. But what can I say? I am a Capricorn after all.
