Disney’s Live-Action Lady And The Tramp Will Star Real, Actual Dogs Instead Of CGI Good Boys And Girls

"Who doesn’t want to see two real dogs kiss over a plate of spaghetti?"

While the debate rages around whether next year’s Lion King remake is “live-action” or not (spoiler: it is not), another of Disney’s remakes of a classic animated film is skipping that whole thing in the best way possible.

The live-action version of Lady And The Tramp, which was announced earlier this year with the voices of Tessa Thompson as Lady and Justin Theroux as the Tramp, is currently in post-production.

In an interview with Collider earlier this week, one of the actors playing an actual human revealed that the dogs are real.

I repeat: THE DOGS ARE REAL.

No uncanny-valley CGI or Wes Anderson stop-motion whimsy here. Just an IRL purebred cocker spaniel and a rakish grey mutt being horny over pasta.

Me, extremely ready to watch this movie every day for a year.

There are real dogs. Who doesn’t want to see two real dogs kiss over a plate of spaghetti? That is the main draw for me. You get the charisma of real dogs in there,” says Thomas Mann, who’s playing Lady’s human Jim Dear.

Here are some more words he said about the dogs!

“We shot with the dogs, every day. They were on set and they weren’t even [professionally] trained. They found these dogs and started training them about three months before. They just wanted to find the perfect dogs.”

Uh, all dogs are perfect, mate, but go on.

“It was crazy because they didn’t know they were working, so they would run off in the middle of a take, and then come back over. You have to be extra patient because you have to be good every time for when they are good once.

“It was a lot of fun. It was so cute, every day, to just have a bunch of dogs to play with. It made the job a lot less stressful.”

Just for the record, Mann himself is also adorable. So we also have that to look forward to.

But mainly: dogs!
