Disney Is Bringing Back The Proud Family And Destiny’s Child Better Come With It

Disney(A)+.

The Disney Channel of the early 2000s was the light of my young, adolescent existence. Rushing home to watch shows like Kim Possible, The Suite Life of Zac and Cody, and That’s So Raven was the best part of my day. Especially when Disney had back-to-back episodes of the one show scheduled for a whole afternoon.

One of the most underrated shows of the OG Disney Channel Era was without a doubt, The Proud Family.

The theme song was sung by Solange and Destiny’s Child for goodness sake: it was a damn gift.

The Proud Family was an animated sitcom and focused on 14-year-old Penny Proud (voiced by Kyla Pratt) and her family (duh). To this day, Penny’s take-no-crap grandmother Suga Mama is my spirit animal.

The show premiered in 2001 and finished in 2005 with The Proud Family Movie, so it’s been a while since the Proud’s graced our TV screens. But that’s all going to change because actor Tommy Davidson, the voice of Penny’s dad Oscar Proud, announced the show is getting a Disney+ reboot.

Disney is yet to confirm the series is coming to their streaming service, but Tommy seemed pretty sure of the fact when he spoke to WhereistheBuzz about it:

Imagine Penny Proud all grown up and still sassy as ever 14 years later. Will she still be living at home? Or will she be an independent 32-year-old woman? Will former cheeky babies BeBe and CeCe be rebellious teenagers? Will Suga Mama still be around?

Or maybe, just maybe, the show will be exactly the same. After all, if it ain’t broken don’t fix it.
