It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Before Ryan Reynolds, Danny DeVito Was Tested For Detective Pikachu And Frankly, He Would've Been Perfect

Can I offer you this nice poké ball in this trying time?

Danny Devito is nothing short of a God ‘round these parts.

…Excuse the pun.

But when Detective Pikachu was announced in 2017, fans petitioned for DeVito to be cast as the titular electric mouse and for good reason. In the game, Detective Pikachu sounds eerily similar to DeVito and apparently, it was similar enough that when the producers were testing for the role, tested with Danny DeVito.

Pika Pika.

In an interview with Game Informer, Cale Boytner explained “We definitely thought about it and how it might inform the spirit of it. Danny is incredible by the way. I am a huge fan of Danny DeVito.”

IT’S PERFECT!

Boytner went on to say, “It was really very funny, so I couldn’t speak to all the reasons why it wasn’t Danny DeVito cast. I love Danny and some point maybe after the movie comes about, we can share those early tests. It’s absolutely hilarious.”

And although sadly it wasn’t meant to be with the role eventually going to Ryan Reynolds, Boynter said “I can’t give away too much, but in terms of where the story goes and how it evolves, we had to sort of look at everything, including what fans weren’t seeing yet to make the decision. But that spirit of Danny DeVito, I promise you, is still inside of Pikachu.”

WHAT COULD’VE BEEN?!

As much as we love Ryan Reynolds, we can only wonder what DeVito could’ve done with the role in a kids film…actually Reynolds seems like the safer choice.

Anyway, some very talented people have already combined it and well, it’s up to you whether or not it would’ve worked.
