Inconceivable! A New Version Of Deadpool 2 Is Coming In December And Will Apparently Pay Homage To The Princess Bride

As you wish.

After the release of Deadpool 2 and then the subsequent release of a longer, extended cut of the same movie, you’d think that there’s not much more to milk out of the Merc With A Mouth’s latest adventure. But like how Deadpool thinks David Bowie is still alive, you’d be wrong.

According to Deadline, apparently a new PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 coming on December 21 in the US. Considering how the movie wholeheartedly embraced its original R-rating by going all out on the violence, swearing, and gags, I can only imagine that a watered down PG-13 version would last only 10 minutes long and consist of Deadpool telling the story to a camera like a kindergarten teacher since that’s what the censors will only allow.

Turns out I may not be entirely wrong on that assumption because lead star Ryan Reynolds threw up a hint on what the new cut will be like with this new Instagram pic featuring himself and Fred Savage in an obvious homage to The Princess Bride.

First off: Inconceivable!

Secondly, using The Princess Bride‘s bedtime story narrative device to get around all the blood, gore, and other non PG-13 stuff in Deadpool 2 is absolutely hilarious and an ingenious way to introduce the younger generation to Deadpool and the forever quotable Princess Bride.

While we have no idea how much new footage there will be (or if there’s even new footage at all), I just hope there’s a scene of Deadpool reenacting this iconic scene:

This could either be the greatest idea or the worst idea ever, but I’m completely sold on it either way, so much so that I don’t even care that this new Princess Bride version of Deadpool 2 is bumping Alita: Battle Angel from its original December premiere date to February 14.

It’s not something I wished for and yet it looks like Westley kept his word after all.
