Shazam! Looks Like The Type Of Big Dumb Fun Movie DC Should've Been Making From The Beginning

Given Marvel's success with the same formula, it was bound to happen at some point for DC.

The recent release and success of Aquaman heralded something of a rebirth for DC’s slate of comic book movies.

Gone was the grim-dark tone and aesthetic, and in came colours, humour, and an actual sense of fun. It definitely wasn’t the worst decision to go in that direction. After all, Marvel have been doing it for over a decade and it has paid off handsomely for them.

DC’s next film, Shazam!, is leaning even more heavily into the fun side of things and it looks like the type of movie that the studio should’ve been making right from the beginning.

After the first Shazam trailer surprised everyone with its zany tone last year, the studio has now followed it up with a long-awaited second trailer that doubles down on the movie’s sense of humour and newfound fun.

It’s got jokes, the actors are clearly taking the piss while enjoying themselves, and it is filled with neat little Easter eggs and gags.

Before we dive in a little deeper, check it out here first.

While the story is kept under wraps, the trailer once again perfectly captures what a teenager would 100% do if they found out they can transform to a super powered adult.

Like, who wouldn’t film themselves trying out their powers or buying booze while underage if they could?

Be honest, you’d do the exact same thing if you could.

But the best part by far is Billy throwing a Batman figure at  the big bad while exclaiming “get him, Batman!”

It counts as a Batman cameo.

Yep this movie has me sold.

We won’t have long to wait for this movie as Shazam! is scheduled for release on April 5, which gives you enough time to watch Captain Marvel before treating yourself with this fun-filled romp.

And on that note, let’s end on a fun fact: Shazam was actually called Captain Marvel back in the day but due to copyright issues, DC decided to rebrand Shazam as, well, Shazam.
