MTV Is Bringing Back Daria, No Word On Whether It'll Finally Commission A Full Series Of Sick Sad World

For some reason, it's called Daria And... Jodie. JUSTICE FOR JANE LANE.

Get ready for a big dose of ‘90s nostalgia, MTV have just announced they are bringing Daria back.

Here’s a GIF of us freaking out.

For many of us who grew up in the late ‘90s and early noughties, Daria’s wordy, jaded monotone was the sound of our youth and holds a special place in our hearts.

And that’s exactly what MTV’s new production unit, MTV Studios, is cashing in on. According to Variety, MTV Studios will focus on developing reboots and revivals to reclaim the millennial audience.

The production arm will capitalise on MTV’s vast library of intellectual property and make a pretty penny by selling these titles to other networks.

“MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV.

“With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners.”

And we’re living for it, as long Daria’s sister Quinn can come along too. She was the show’s secretly-smart secret weapon and the bitchy banter shared between the two summed up sister-life perfectly.

MTV Studios’ initial line-up also includes a re-imagining of Aeon Flux and an updated version of the reality makeover show Made. But obviously, Daria is what we all care about.

So, what can we expect?

MTV Studios has given the show the tentative title Daria and Jodie which suggests the show will expand beyond deadpan Daria to focus on one of the original’s few non-white characters, A-student Jodie Landon, too.

Ah yes, the classic pairing! Daria and Jodie!

Jane who?

“These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race,” says MTV’s description of the show.

Daria and Jodie will be written by the fabulous Grace Edwards, who has previously written for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Inside Amy Schumer, and more – which is a solid pedigree.

As long as Mystik Spiral make an occasional appearance, we might consider forgiving this egregious slight against the iconic Jane Lane.
